The Sustainable Asset Management in SA project is an initiative of the Local Government Association (LGA) to assist SA Councils to implement sustainable asset management practices and meet the requirements of the Local Government Act (as amended).

Under the Local Government Act, Councils are required to have a long term financial plan and an infrastructure and asset management plan by 30 June 2008.

The LGA initiated an alliance with the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) to develop tools and templates based on the IPWEA International Management Manual for SA councils.

The suite of templates and guidelines forming the LGA’s Sustainable Asset Management initiative was developed for LGA, by IPWEA, Jeff Roorda & Associates and Skilmar Systems using the IPWEA International Infrastructure Management Manual.

Further details of the LGA’s Sustainable Asset Management and other financial sustainability initiatives are available on the LGA Financial Sustainability web site at www.lga.sa.gov.au
